"I'm losing my marbles." There is a popular myth that we lose our minds as we get old. Declining brain function is one of our many concerns as we age. Any way the good news is that research is showing that there is not a progressive loss of one's mental abilities. Just as we rehearsal the body, we also need to rehearsal the brain to keep it active - "Use it or lose it." By the way, regular physical rehearsal also boosts brain function. When we breathe more deeply by exercising, we send more oxygen to the brain. Did you know that the brain is only 2% of our body weight but uses 25% of the oxygen that we breathe? Our brains can get dehydrated straight through lack of water so we need to drink water commonly to keep our brains functioning properly.

Stress, poor health, poor nutrition, lack of sleep, worry, anger, too much caffeine and alcohol, all work on our our capability to think and remember clearly and can lead to mental decline. To slow down the ageing process and stay healthier mentally and physically, learn to relax. Stress is ageing! A good night's sleep regenerates the brain, distinct thoughts strengthen the immune system. Keep physically active, walk regularly, eat well, drink in moderation, laugh more and enjoy the simple pleasures of life each day and be thankful each day for what is good in your life.
